Chemical peeling is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin that is typically performed on the face, neck and hands. Skin peels offer many cosmetic and therapeutic benefits and can be used for various skin conditions, such as:
Acne – Superficial chemical peels exfoliate the skin, allowing dead skin cells to be removed more effectively, excess oils on the skin are also removed. This action unblocks hair follicles and pores and reduces the appearance of pimples and improving skin texture that is damaged by acne.
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles – especially under the eyes and around the mouth in sun damaged or ageing skin.
Rough skin Texture – chemical peels can improve rough skin texture by increasing the amount of collagen in the upper layer of the skin.
Lentigines (large freckles) which appear as dark spots on the skin, they are also called liver spots, or age spots – Large freckles can develop as a result of sun exposure and are present on sites which are exposed to excess sun such as face, arms and neck. A course of chemical peels can lighten large freckles and improve the appearance of sun damaged skin.
Melasma – is a dark skin discoloration which appears as patches commonly found on the cheeks, nose, lips, upper lip, and forehead. It is common in women who are taking hormonal treatment in the form of contraceptives or Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and pregnant women. A course of chemical peels can lighten the appearance of dark discoloured skin caused by melasma.
Hyperpigmentation – caused by excess skin pigment in the skin which can result in uneven skin tone. Chemical peels can lighten and even out the tone and appearance of the skin.
Superficial Peels are suitable for: all skin types including ethnic skins. Superficial peels are also good preparation for medium and deep peels and are appropriate for serial applications.
Peels are often used to simply boost self-image. The skin texture is honed, complexion clearer and glowing!!
HOW ARE CHEMICAL PEELS PERFORMED?
Prior to your peel you will be provided with relevant pre-treatment glycolic wash and topical pre-conditioning lotion to prepare the skin. Use of these products will provide uniform skin surface, even skin tone & melanin distribution but also help maximise the results of your peel!
At the time of your peel the skin will be thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils. The eyes and hair will be protected before the chemical solution is carefully applied to the face. Rebecca is well qualified to select the correct peeling agent and strength for each individual peel based on the apparent skin damage present and following an in-depth personalised consultation. The application of the peel exfoliates the top layer of the skin, allowing new, refreshed skin to appear.
Most clients experience a mild warm sensation that lasts around 5 minutes. This may be followed by some slight tingling.
FOLLOWING YOUR PEEL:
Our practitioners will provide you with the relevant post-treatment advice. It is important that an SPF equivalent to 15 or higher is used for a minimum of 2 weeks after treatment in order to protect the skin following your peel. These are available from Mc-Aesthetics if required.
